January 2010 - Issue 67 - www.clareevans.co.uk

Hello ,

Happy New Year.

I hope you had a good break over Christmas and New Year. Between snow and bad weather warnings I made it down to Somerset to stay with friends over Christmas and also visited family on the way.

The weather has hit many businesses over the last few weeks both at home and abroad. Unlike other countries, here in the UK we're not used to coping with large quantities of snow - although being one of the lucky ones that works mostly from home, it's stopped me getting to a couple of meetings but otherwise business as usual. I've been enjoying the countryside and some of the birds now visiting my garden. What have you been up to in the snow?

This month I have a VERY SPECIAL SNOWY OFFER for you. For this month only you can get a Time Audit Feedback Session for ONLY £25. Don't miss out on this great opportunity to get your own personalised Kick Start for 2010. Download the Time Audit, fill it in, send it back to me and I'll contact you to book your session.

As usual, you can get extra news and tips from my blog www.clareevans.co.uk/blog or Follow me on Twitter and keep up-to-date automatically. Connect with me on Linked In and Facebook.

Enjoy the rest of this month's newsletter.

Clare

P.S. Feel free to pass this newsletter on to friends and colleagues.

Turn Your Resolutions Into Results

It's that time of year when we all set our goals make those New Year resolutions - lose weight, get fit, find a new job, get a promotion, make more money. All great goals but how many of us actually stick with it.

I know I often cover this subject at around this time but I think we can all benefit from a reminder.  Here are few tips to help you turn your resolutions into results.

1. Write it down. Actually writing down what you want to achieve makes it more real. Get it out of your head and commit it to paper.

2. Be really specific - include exactly WHAT is it you want and WHEN you aim to achieve it by.
- Exactly how much weight do you want to lose?
- How fit is fit?
- How much money do you want to earn and when?

3. Emotionally engage with it. Create a clear picture in your mind. Think how you will look and feel when you've actually achieved your goal. Athletes visualise their success as part of their training. Think about what you're gaining, not what you're giving up.

4. Be realistic - while it's great to challenge yourself, be realistic about what you can achieve, given your time and resources.  Don't set too many goals. Have one good goal and a few smaller ones. Trying do too much all at once is more likely to make you give up.

5. Set targets and milestones - to help you get the results you want. Create stepping stones along the way. You don't have to do it all in one go especially if it's a big goal. Having milestones lets you see how you're doing.

6. Tell someone - you're more likely to do something about it if you know someone else knows about it. They can also hold you accountable and encourage you along the way.

7. Track your progress. It's no good setting a goal and a date and then reaching that date to find you haven't achieved it. Keep a weekly or monthly check on how you're doing - are you on target? If not, what needs to change to help you reach your goal?

8. Get a buddy, mentor or coach. You're far more likely to achieve your goal and you'll get there faster if you've got someone helping you along the way. Find someone who shares a similar goal (training to get fit) or is equally committed to seeing you succeed.

9. Make it fun - don't slog away on a treadmill in the gym to get fit if you don't enjoy it. There are lots of ways to exercise - cycling, walking and swimming are great ways to get fit.

Don't deprive yourself. Think healthy eating rather than a crazy diet you won't stick to.  Make work goals fun and go with your natural skills and abilities.

10. Reward yourself. If you've put energy and effort into achieving your goal why not plan a reward for when you complete it. Especially if you prefer the carrot rather than the stick. Make the reward appropriate and to match the size of the goal.
- When you achieve your target weight - buy a new outfit.
- When you reach your financial goal - plan a weekend break.

If you go off track, don't give up. Adjust and modify your goals.  Rarely is the path direct and smooth but if you know where you going it's easier to see when you get diverted. Look at the what got in the way and then get back on track.
