Gain an extra hour a day
Many people these days are on the go all the time. I'm sure an extra hour in their day would make a real difference. Just think how much more you could squeeze in.
What would you do with an extra hour each and every day?
- Sleep?
- Exercise?
- Work?
- Play?
The top two answers are the top two answers I hear most often. Yes, really. Most people don't get enough sleep and are probably burning the candle at both ends just to keep up. Exercise tends to slip - probably because work takes over or gets in the way.
Where do you spend your time?
If you think about the amount of time you waste in an average day - it can easily add up to at least an hour, so if you plan and organise your time better finding an extra hour (+1) isn't that difficult.
How often do you get interrupted or distracted? Several times a day I would imagine. All those breaks in concentration, even if it's only for a few minutes add up. It takes a while to switch back to what you were working on, just a few interruptions in an hour means you could be wasting at least an hour a day.
Reduce your interruptions, stop getting distracted and you'll save at least an hour a day. (+1)
How much time do you waste working on low priority tasks? Email will almost certainly be one of these, internet - whether at home or work is probably another and TV another.
On average we spend three and a half hours each day watching TV. These days - probably 'multi-tasking' with a laptop or smartphone. Half watching TV, half catching up on social media or on the internet.
Relaxing in front of the TV is a good way to unwind after a busy day but don't let the small (or big) screen in the corner of the room rule your life.
How much time do you spend watching repeats, seeing a film you've already watched or watching rubbish TV? And that doesn't include time spent online, downloaded films, playing games.
What could you achieve instead if you spent one hour less watching TV - read a book, take up a hobby, do some exercise, listen to music, learn something new, complete a home study course ...? (+1)
Reduce your time wasters. Where else do you waste time during the time - chatting with colleagues, ineffective meetings, running late, stuck in traffic, busy but not necessarily on productive, profitable or significant 'stuff'.
Cut down your meetings - either reduce the length of time spent in meetings or the number of meetings you have in a week. (+1)
Log your time over the next week and see where you're spending your time both in and out of work. Use a tool like RescueTime to log your computer activity.
Download the Time Audit for some other ideas on where to focus and free up more time or get in touch for a free chat.
Until next month.
