Hello ,

Welcome to all new subscribers since last month.

Well, the time has finally come when my book actually gets published and I've been holding out all week for the book to actually land on my doormat but so far nothing.  Not helped by the fact my website has been down for a few days.  Yes, I have paid the bill, so I'm not sure why it's gone AWOL. It came back briefly, disappeared again and now is back up with a dramatic increase in spam flooding into my inboxes this morning.  If for any reason you need to get hold of me- I'm also contactable via Linked In, Facebook and Ecademy.

I'm talking to my local branch of Borders to host a local book launch in Brighton - if you're based in or around Sussex - pencil in the evening of Thursday the 25th September.  Let me know if you spot it in any of your local bookshops - you can either update my Facebook group or just send me an email.

Special Offer

For anyone ordering the book over this weekend from the 5th September until the 7th - send me a note of the last seven digits of your Amazon Order number and your email address and I'll not only send you a free copy of the Time Management Audit but I'll also add you to the attendee list for my monthly Get Control of Your Time teleclasses for the remainder of the year (total value£50).  Even if you don't have time to participate on the day, you'll still be sent the notes from the call and the weekly bonus Time Tips.

Just click on the book cover to place your order today.

I've noticed that the book is also now available to order on Amazon.com, so the offer is available for orders placed on both sites.

Holiday Inspiration and Focus

The schools here go back this week and many people are now back from their summer (what summer) holiday.  Even if you've only managed to get away for a few days break - did you managed to take some time out while you were away?

I've often found that holidays can be a great opportunity to not only take a break from your business or job but to think about the things that are really important to you and get a new perspective on life and triggers some of those light bulb moments of clarity.  As a result of my holiday breaks, I've changed career (twice).

Spending time with family and friends who you don't have as much time for when the nose is to the grindstone, time to exercise and eat more healthily ... or perhaps not if you've been over-indulging.  When we have a chance to getaway from our day-to-day routine, it can be a lot easier to take a few steps back and step off the treadmill for a while, you notice how you've been working longer and longer hours, you realise how little time you spend with family and friends, you see the effects of lack of exercise, rushed eating habits and too little sleep.

As well as New Year, holidays can be a time when we decide to make changes - whether it's to exercise more, work fewer hours, go for a career change or get a promotion.  The danger is that when you get back to work and slip back into the daily routine, it's easy to forget all the good intentions, as the memory of the holiday quickly fades.

Write down the changes you'd like to make, before you forget them. Getting those thoughts and ideas out onto paper makes them more real but if you don't do anything with them then they're nothing more than an idea until you put them into action.

  • If you want to get fit - book time when you're going to exercise in your dairy.

  • If you want to work fewer hours - commit to a starting and finishing time and stick to it.

  • If you want to change career or get a promotion at work -what skills and abilities do you need to develop to take you to the next stage.  Book on some training or start brushing up your CV.

To increase the likelihood that you'll actually do something about making these changes is to make yourself accountable.  Tell someone what you plan to do and when.  Whether it's a friend, colleague, mentor or coach.  Agree that you'll report on your progress and meet up for a review on a regular basis.

If you're serious about making these changes, don't let yourself off the hook but making excuses ... "I'm too busy ...", "I don't have time ...", "I'll do it later ...", "Now isn't a good time ..."

While I've spoken before about rewarding yourself for achieving your goals, why not try a different approach that might work better for you.  If you really want to give yourself an incentive and additional impetus to make a change or an take action, give yourself a compelling reason to achieve a task or complete your goal, especially if you have a tendency to put things off.  If you DON'T complete the task - agree that you will do something that would give you a certain amount of pain, embarrassment or grief.  Not so much a carrot but a stick.

This could involve money or a prized possession like your car, your music collection, books, having to justify your behaviour or lack of results in front of family, friends or your boss.   The impact of losing something that means a lot to you, suffering embarrassment or proving someone wrong, is far more likely to keep you accountable and focused on the task in hand.

If you would like to create some accountability, increase your effectiveness and be more productive, give me a call, send an email to info@clareevans.co.uk or sign-up for one of my Friday Focus sessions.
