Welcome to all new subscribers since last month.
At the end of last month, I was up in Manchester at the IFA Adviser Event - giving a talk on, not surprisingly - Time Management and surprise, surprise, several people turned up late. That always amuses me but at least shows that they're in the right place.
Book update - Time Management For Dummies is currently hovering in the Top 5 of Business - Time Management books on Amazon, so think what a great Christmas present it would make - OK, perhaps you don't want to tell your beloved, you think their time management is rubbish, so why not give them a Gift certificate instead with a heavy hint. I was at a meeting today and someone bought a copy for their time challenged sister!
This month I've added the Time Audit to my website. It's been hovering around for a while and I've worked through it with a few clients, who have seen the benefits and been amazed at the results. The Audit focuses on the key areas of time management and identifies where you could make improvements to boost your efficiency and increase your productivity, while enabling you to work fewer hours.
If you'd like a copy, just click on the Time Audit link on my website. I'm also offering a one-off session to get specific feedback on your results and create a customised action plan.
Order the book through www.timemanagementfordummies.co.uk and not only get 30% off the cover price but also support Cancer Research or why not buy that Amazon gift certificate for Christmas. Amazon Gift Certificate
As usual keep in touch with what I've been up to in my blog - http://www.clareevans.blogspot.com or Follow Me on Twitter - http://www.twitter.com/clareevans and keep up-to-date automatically.
Enjoy the rest of this month's newsletter.
Don't Be A Lone Ranger
As a nation we're probably not good at asking for help when we need it. This becomes even more of a problem when you're very busy or when you work for yourself. There's a tendency to take on more and more. To a certain extent you don't have a huge amount of budget to spend on extra staff when you first get started but this doesn't mean you have to everything yourself.
Just because you work for yourself, doesn't mean that you're working on your own. Create your own support team. You'll already have a few people that are an important part of your 'team'.
Mastermind Group - this could be made up of friends, colleagues or people you collaborate with. Get together on a regular basis - weekly, monthly or quarterly. Face to face or over the phone. Share ideas, gain support, brainstorm, ask for advice - based on the concept that two heads (or several) is better than one. Focus on each person in turn.
Your Personal Support System - we all need a helping hand, a friendly shoulder and empathetic ear or a hug every now and then. Don't be afraid to call on friends and family if you need them. You don't need to suffer in silence when you're feeling under par or overwhelmed. You might be pleasantly surprised how much people are happy to help if only you ask.
You could also get together with a friend or colleague once a week or once a month and work together in the same space but on your own businesses. You'll be more focused as long as you don't distract each other, you can check in and keep each other motivated and you'll have someone to bounce ideas off and get feedback.
If you'd like to include me as part of your Support Team, give me a call and find out more about how it could work or check your own situation with the Time Audit.

- Bank Manager - OK, usually they're just interested in either lending you money - not much of that happening at the moment, or charging you for using your hard earned cash but they can also be a source of advice and information should you need it.
- Accountant - they know how all that tax stuff works and can save you not only time but also money in compiling your accounts. If you expect them to do everything - when you present them with your carrier bag stuffed with receipts, they'll charge you more but if you just want them to prepare your accounts once a year, if it's not something you either want to do or know how to do, is worth doing. Which brings me on to ...
- Book-keeper - if you don't like doing your accounts on a regular basis then get someone to do it for you. They'll be quicker and more efficient and it will save you a couple of hours a month.
- Virtual Assistant. These can be an absolute godsend. If you have admin tasks that you need to do on a regular basis then why not get your own 'virtual' secretarial resource. They work as freelance and will do as much or as little as you need from a few hours a month to a couple of days. You pay them for the amount of work they do and it frees you up to spend time on your business.
- Web Designer - while a quick and easy website can be created in a matter of hours using either a template from one of the hundreds of low-cost website hosting companies, or even blogging sites like Wordpress and Typepad - having a professionally designed website is worth considering if you need to present a professional image. You can hand over all the updating and coding to them but it's useful to have some form of content management system, so that you can update and add pages yourself.
- Graphic Designer - while Word might give you the tools to create a few neat looking flyers and handouts, it's worth spending time giving them a professional appearance.
- Printer - don't try printing everything yourself on your office printer. These are fine for low volumes but if you need lots of copies or something more professional use a printer and or graphic designer.
- IT Support - cultivate someone in your network who you can call on when you need them instead of trying to resolve an IT problem yourself. You don't have the need or resources to have a full-time IT person on site but know who to contact when you do.
Mastermind Group - this could be made up of friends, colleagues or people you collaborate with. Get together on a regular basis - weekly, monthly or quarterly. Face to face or over the phone.
