Sometimes it’s the little things in life that make us happy. Not big dramatic gestures or expensive possessions but simple pleasures that are free or don’t cost a lot.
Treat yourself: - A cup of coffee or a relaxing bath and your favourite
book.
- The company of family and friends.
- Your favourite song or a piece of music - it can lift you up, inspire, relax, and motivate you or move you to tears.
- The smell and taste of freshly baked home-made bread.
- Change your walk to work or the shops. Try a different route and notice what’s different.
- Laugh out loud - listen or watch your favourite comedian or comedy show.
- Do something creative - draw, doodle, paint, sew.
- Go to bed
early and read a book, especially if you’re often collapsing into bed just before midnight after a busy day.
Enjoy the world around you:
- A walk in the sunshine, even at this time of year - enjoy the crisp winter air, the sun on your face.
- Watch a beautiful sunrise or sunset.
- Smell a flower. Even in the winter many have a heavenly scent - winter jasmine, mahonia, hyacinth.
- Climb a hill and admire the view.
- Watch for shooting stars
on a clear night sky.
- Watch the birds in your garden or a local park.
- A cup of tea and a slice of cake after a bike ride.
Do something for someone else and pass on the good feeling: - Compliment three people - a friend, a stranger and someone you work with.
- Give a smile or a kind word to brighten someone’s day.
- Buy a coffee for the person in the queue behind you.
- Drop your spare change in the nearest charity
box.
- Hold the door open for someone.
- Pick up a little extra on your next grocery shop and drop it in the food bank or charity collection.
- Donate unwanted clothes, books, CDs and DVDs to a homeless charity.
- Fund a micro loan to a small business in a different
country.
Write down three things for which you’re grateful and appreciate what you do have.
