Can you believe it's already December and it's definitely got a lot colder here in the last few days.
Life gets busy,
especially at this time of year when there are just never enough hours in the day.
There are even more demands on our time with end of the year fast approaching, winding down before Christmas, clearing the decks so you're able to relax and enjoy a festive break with family and friends.
If you fail to manage your time effectively, you won’t be able to get ‘more’ done each day. You’ll not only end up being less productive but you’ll create more stress. Feeling overwhelmed by all there is to do, being pulled in multiple directions or reacting to the latest demand or urgent deadline. Especially those last minute ... "we need this before the end of the year" requests.
A key factor in not being as productive as you could be is we’re never taught time management. You pick up bad (and good) habits from those around you at school, home, work colleagues.
You might be fortunate in always just about managing to get things done or you just put in the hours.
It’s easy to get overloaded when you don’t know where your time currently goes. You overestimate how much you can actually achieve or you’re just not able to plan and organise your time that well.
- Start saying ‘no’ before you get too busy - both at work and socially. Only take on as much as you can realistically cope with or that’s right for you, right
now.
- There’s less time available than you think, especially when you break down each task into what’s actually involved.
- Your one hour meeting doesn’t include the time to get there and back or the planning and preparation needed before or the follow-up after.
As
you wind down to the end of the year, think about what you need to put in place that will help you to work more effectively next year.
