So did you enjoy your bank holiday weekend or did you end up more tired and stressed out than before?
Yes, being a typical Bank Holiday Monday it was raining, which may or may not have been a good thing for you.
If you have a tendency to rush around getting as much
done as you can, because there are just so many tasks piling up or even to take the opportunity to catch-up on with work without the usual work day distractions, you’re not alone.
Plan Your Long Weekend
It’s as important to plan your downtime and weekends (long or not) as it is to plan your working week.
No, you don’t need to organise
every hour of the weekend or create a prioritised to-do list in the same way as you might do in the week but if you want to make the best use of your time, having a plan helps.
You also don’t need to feel the urge to cram in time meeting up with friends or family if you just want a bit of ‘me time’. There
are other weekends, so plan what you need most.
Don’t feel guilted into doing something because you feel if you’re not being busy or active, you’re wasting time.
Sometimes it really is the best use of your time to do absolutely nothing!
There’s enough rushing around, cramming in more than we can cope with, so make time to switch off, recharge and reset.
- Have a list of things you’d like to get done at the weekend but don’t overwhelm yourself with too much.
- Pick one or two things you know you can comfortably manage and decide when you’re going to do them.
- Leave plenty of time for fun and relaxation.
When you ‘do nothing’, you also give your mind a break from overthinking, constantly being switched on and allow a little bit of clarity and insight to emerge.
Insight into what's
important and what you need to focus on.
Plan Your Short Week
After a bank holiday weekend it can challenging getting back into work:
- Start by reviewing your tasks and commitments for the week ahead and plan what needs to be done.
- Remember it’s a four day week and don’t try and get too much done all at once or try to cram five days into four.
- Take the positivity and insights of a relaxed weekend to focus on new opportunities and priorities in the weeks ahead.
If you feel disoriented after a break, don’t worry. I know I do! “Is it Monday or Tuesday ... Tuesday or Wednesday …?”
Follow good planning and prioritising habits and you’ll quickly get back into your routine.
If your routine needs a shake-up, reset your planning and prioritising
habits. 👇
