We're heading towards the final three months of the year and this week is a good time to plan out your next 90 days.
If you're new here, every 90 days I take you through the 90 Day planning process. A way to break down your goals into more manageable, realistic, doable chunks of 90 days.
Use this as your quarterly reminder. Over the next few days set aside a block of time to work through the following steps. Do it in one go or take a couple of goes.
Plan Your Next 90 Days
STEP 1. Review the last quarter:
Answer the following questions to review and assess your progress so far:
- What have you achieved so far? It's important to
acknowledge your successes each month as well as any areas for improvement.
- What worked, what didn't? Not everything goes according to plan but that's OK as long as you recognise where you are and what's needed.
- What learnings or insights have you had? What do you need to do more or less of, do you need to refocus or
simplify your priorities?
- What do you want/need to change, adapt or start doing?
STEP 2. Outline your priorities and objectives:
Decide what you want/need to focus on for the next 90 days
- Create your clear measurable priorities that are aligned with your goals for the year. Have you changed or adapted them over the course of the year?
- Organise them based on their importance, significance and the time and
resources you'll need to achieve them. It's not all about work, include your own personal priorities and objectives too.
- Simplify - are you trying to do too much or creating conflicting priorities? Pick ONE thing to focus on, so you don't get overwhelmed!
STEP 3. Create an action plan:
Once you've identified your priorities, create a plan of action to take you forward, month by month, week by week.
- Break down your priorities and objectives into step by step action with
milestones for each month.
- Schedule the time into your planner and allocate the resources you'll need.
- What obstacles, road blocks might come up in the next few months? How will you manage these.
Step back and
look at the bigger picture. Does it still make sense and align with your longer-term goals? Do you have time to implement everything you want in the time you have?
People tend to be overly optimistic about how much time they have or how long things are going to take. Be
realistic. Start with less and add more as you build confidence and momentum.
Implement your plan!
Now, as you plan out your tasks at the beginning of each month, week and day,
keep your 90 day plan in mind.
- Work on your actions week-by-week.
- Review your progress against your milestones.
- Adjust and adapt as you need to. Flexibility is important.
Accountability & Support
Being held accountable and having the right support when you need it, can make a difference to how focused you are and how much you're motivated to achieve and keep moving forward.
- Build your support network and share your goals and action plan with them.
- Track your progress, discuss challenges and brainstorm ideas.
